For virtually all Lowrance GPS units, all you need to do is insert the memory card. However, some tips are listed below which may assist you in using your GPS.
Maps Not Showing:
- If your GPS has a sliding lock or a way to secure the card, it has to be entirely shut or closed or the metal leads will not make contact.
- Menu - Map Data must be set to Lowrance not Navionics. Navigation to this setting varies on each Lowrance unit.
Township, Range and Section Numbers Not Showing
- Go into your categories on your Lowrance units and make sure the Other POIs category is turned on.
- Set your Detail to High
- Zoom into the middle of a section of land and at a few hundred feet this number should appear
Maps Not Displaying Correctly: Many Lowrance units come with different base map elements and it may make a TRAX element look incorrect. As an example on a Lowrance XOG, an area called Custer National Forest shows in Western ND. As the TRAX map overlays over the base map, it makes the Grassland area look too large. Turn off National Forests in this example and the map elements appear correctly: Recommended categories to turn on include: Parks, Swamps, Trails, Rivers, County and State Borders, Lake Contours, Railroads, Highway, Interstate, Rural and all City Roads, and Cities.
GPS will not lock on satellites: On some Lowrance GPS units such as the XOG, there are times the GPS receiver will not pick up a satellite with a 3rd party map in the unit. Simply take the card out, and attempt a satellite lock. Once the GPS has locked on the satellites, insert the card again and proceed. For the XOG, this can be done while the unit is one. For other units where batteries have to be removed, you should turn the unit off first.
